BALLET
This classical style of expressive movement has something to offer for everyone. Ballet has a technique which is the foundation of all dance, improving posture, grace and strengthening the whole body. This discipline is vital for any student wishing to pursue a professional career in dance. The IDTA exam syllabus is followed and exams sessions are every February.
TAP
Tap is as popular today as it was in the heyday of the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals. Shows such as 42nd Street and Crazy For You, and the more recent Stomp and Tap Dogs highlight the great diversities of style and music in tapping. The IDTA exam syllabus is followed and exams sessions are every February.
STREET DANCE / HIP HOP
This class incorporates a wide variety of styles including Commercial Street, Hip Hop, Lyrical Hip Hop and Street Jazz. The IDTA medal exam syllabus is followed and exams sessions are every February.
CONTEMPORARY
There are many different techniques used in this style which could be described as a mix of Ballet and Jazz with a lot of emotion thrown in. The lessons explore different influences from Choreographers such as Merce Cunningham and Martha Graham to the more modern approach of the fabulous Mia Michaels. This class is a free work class and does not follow an exam syllabus. Classes are available from age 9+.
MUSICAL THEATRE
Musical Theatre is a major part of GSPA with over half of our students taking part. These classes incorporate Singing, Dancing and Acting in one great lesson giving our students the chance to become a “triple threat” in the industry. Students study vocal technique, acting methods and of course, many different styles of dance from all your favourite West End and Broadway shows such as Hairspray, Chicago, Wicked and many more!
It is a great class for confidence building, team work and getting creative. Rather than taking an exam, Musical Theatre students take part in an annual showcase half way through the year to give them an extra performance opportunity in addition to the main school summer show.
DRAMA
Students will be working with the prestigious LAMDA examination board (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) and exams are available in solo, duo or group acting. The class includes improvisation, script work and character developing. A must for all you budding actors! Pupils can be entered for exams.
GROUP SINGING
This group vocal class is vital for any student wishing to pursue a career in Performing Arts or who wishes to audition for professional college. Classes include correct posture and breathing technique, harmony work, solo work, performance and building up a students repertoire. Class available to students aged 11 - 18 years.
